Calendar reminders occur at the wrong time, timezone problem?

When using the v8.5 client if a meeting or appointment is scheduled with a reminder, the reminder occurs exactly one hour late.

We have a network environment where our corporate network and all computers are required to be configured in the Central timezone although we are physically in the Eastern timezone. Because of this, we configured the Location properties of our Notes clients to use a “Local time zone” setting: (GMT-05:00 New York…) with DST instead of using the “operating system’s time zone”. This works fine for emails and the Calendar itself always appears correctly. However, reminders are always an hour late (as if scheduled in Central time instead of Eastern time).

An example: Schedule an appointment at 2:30PM Eastern time with a reminder 30 minutes in advance. The Calendar correctly displays the appointment at 2:30PM. Mouse over also displays the correct time. The reminder pops up at exactly 3:00PM.

Another symptom I have observed: if I open the “Day-At-A-Glance” view in the right sidebar, appointments/meetings appear exactly one hour behind the scheduled time. Using my previous example, an appointment scheduled at 2:30PM will display at 1:30PM on the “Day-At-A-Glance” view.

I have tested and reproduced the problem on multiple RHEL5.2 and RHEL5.3 clients.

Has anyone seen this problem?

Are reminders working correctly for anyone?

What could cause the reminders to occur at the wrong time? Is there a timezone adjustment that needs to be made somewhere else (notes.ini, domino server??)

Hello all,we have same problem.

Could you say how you managed to solve problem with wrong time in Calendar?

Subject: Calendar Entries shown with wrong time

very glad to hear from someone with the same Problem! Until now I have the following facts:Eclipse based NotesClient 8.5 with and without FP1 shows meeting times and appointment times wrong within the calendar overviews! The same calendar entries are correct within the browser and/or the standar client (nlnotes.exe).

All configurations are set to local time, i.e. GMT+2. It seams the overviews computes the given times to GMT, i.e. 2 hours earlier!

On my machine Thinkpad with windows XP, locality Switzerland, the Java call TimeZone.getDefault() returns “GMT” instead of “Europe/Zurich”.

I didn’t find any place to set the Java Default timezone on starting the NotesClient, which could correct the issue!

Even worse: Scheduled Entries of fixed holidays are shown the day before. E.g. Entry for August 1st is shown on July 31!

Conclusion: As browser AND standard client shows all Calendar Entries correct, it is not very likely to be a configuration problem, but a bug within the eclipse based client, due to not initialized default timezone.

We are holding back the rollout of Notes 8.5 because of this weird calendar problem:

Notes 8.5 will be run in a Citrix environment.

  1. We work at GMT+1.

  2. If some of the user look at the calendar view, entries are 3 hours in the future and 12 hours back using “formatting->summarize”.

  3. If I look at this user’s calendar from my configuration/ID (same Citrix Terminal Server), everything is fine.

  4. If the user starts the Basic client everything is fine, too.

Subject: also wrong time issue

Hi, have you solved this, if so how? We have the same problem with this in our citrix environment…

Subject: we had the same problem on windows

we found that the JRE version on the client affected the install. we had a client workstation with JRE version 1.3, 1,4 and 1,6, when the client installed it took the information from the JRE 1.3 and populated the lotus/notes/jvm/lib/tzmappings with the timezone information from jre 1.3 (does not include UTC time information) and it displayed according to the first entry. by replacing this file with an updated version (with correct information) all calender display times were corrected

Following up… I do still have the same problem after FP1. Patiently awaiting a solution, and thankfully this isn’t a show stopper for us.

Subject: In my case solved

Hello all,

I do not know if this works for everyone, but this worked for me:

My time zone is GMT +1 Amsterdam

I changed my time zone to Greenland (GMT-3) and then the time was shown correctly (but the zone was wrong) in the Eclypse client but not in the doc itselves.

I changed it to Brussels (GMT+1) and all was OK

I changed it back to Amsterdam and still all is OK.

Regards,

Peter
