This is a sort of a report from the link below, but this is still present in the 8.5 client
Here’s how to reproduce:

Add somebody to my federated calendar
-
select a calendar entries of theirs
-
unselect them
-New Meeting
You’ll notice even though that users calendar is not on my calendar I’m still creating a meeting on behalf of them. As Ram previously pointed pointed out this is a UI issue, however AT LEAST if I don’t have anybody selected it should default back to my calendar. (Obviously it still has the prior calendar entry still “selected” so the calendar figures I should create an entry on their calendar).
There’s some confused users who accidently create a calendar entry on other users calendar because they don’t realize what’s happening
My Suggestion:
If possible, under the New menu, show the users names whom I have open in my calendar, with a submenu to Meeting, Appointment Etc
