Calendar alarm comes to front of desktop

In a previous release we were able to identify how we wanted calendar reminders to be shown on our desktop. The options were 1) flash a task on the taskbar or 2) bring the alarm notification to the front of the desktop. The newer releases do not have this option and always brings the notification to the front of the desktop. Because of this I have missed many alarms. I will be typing a note or a document and when the alarm comes to the front , because I am typing it disappears and is gone. Why was this option removed and can it be added back in ?

It is a severe annoyance. I end up missing meeting because the alarm has been either cancelled or set to remind me in another 10 minutes depending on what I was typing when it arrived.
