Business case: small integration between Lotus Notes and AS400

Hi,

Business case: small integration between Lotus Notes and AS400.

As Notes developper, I often use data coming from AS400 via xml files (stored on a shared drive on a domino server) parsed by a Lotus Script agent

Now I should send information to AS400’s database from a Lotus Notes database.

(We don’t use LEI , nor Notrix,…, of any third part connection tool , for a question of cost).

My question is:

As the data don’t have to be immediately transferred, can I use xml files?:

  • build XML file in Lotus Notes

  • parse and process XML data on AS400 side in a AS400 program

Is my idea correct?

Then, what is the easiest way to build xml files from Lotus Notes?

  • Build a dynamic .xml view ?

  • Build “line by line” the xml file with a LS agent?

  • Use special classes or tool to do it?

(as Lotus Notes uses natively XML to store information in XML files, it should be easy to directly extract this information on a XML way…)

What is the best way to provide the XML information to the AS400 side?

  • store XML files on the shared drive on the Domino server and remotely access it from AS400

  • use the web server (http access from AS400)

Thank you by advance,

All ideas are welcome,

You can program nearly identical to LEI scripted activities using the free Lotus Conntectors Script Extensions.(LC LSX) and agents. LC LSX is incredibly fast since its more direct vs XML parsing.

A great reference for LC LSX is here>>>http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg246067.html?Open

You just have to add a few simple lines to the LCConnection object(see Designer help) to change the connection from using LEI connection docs to LC LSX.

XML is a viable alternative too. It really depends on the complexity of your data structure and volume of data. I think it will be much slower if you directly connect to Domino to serve it unless extremely simple data structure.

Hi Rami,

Thank you for your very interesting answer.

So, if I good understand, the job could be achieved by LS agents using the LC LSX classes?

Would you have a sample of this code available so I could watch it and use it as a starting point for parametrizing the connection and write down the application code?

Thank you for your fast answer,
