Bummed out with Transparent Cluster Failever in 8.5.2

I was really excited with this new feature. Finally the number of helpdesk call would go down when a server has problems.Unfortunately and apparently it only works if the server is totally down. When the server is hung (semaphore timeout for example), the client stays “stuck”. In my case most server problems are hung states, not outright crashes.

Arghh, so close yet so far…

Subject: so you are bummed out about what?

So what you are actually saying is, you are bummed out with your servers having a hang, not the fail-over ability of the client … correct?

The message-less fail-over works great if you have a “clean” failure/shut-down though there are some issues with calendar entries being created but not saved yet during the fail-over … you can loose that document.

Subject: Yes, clean failure required

And if I look at the history of failures in our domain, it is most likely to be a hang than a crash. So it still helps for maintenance or activities like that but it won’t help for when the server is under water.

I found this http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21304109 and it has a program that detects those hangs and then automatically responds but it is only for iSeries.
