If I try and add a user with an apostrophe in their last name into the federated calendars area, 1) they don’t show up and 2) I get no error messages as to why they didn’t.
I posted earlier about this bug and had a response that a problem report SPES7KHM5S had been created. I was hoping this would be fixed in the 8.5 Final, but I guess not.
Ok, I’m not affected by this. But it blows my mind that this is still a problem given the fact that:
It’s such a glaring problem for end-users of the Notes client
It was found in 8.5 (which went gold in December 2008) and still exists today
The company is IBM
The product, Lotus Notes, has had support for international characters via LMBCS since… 1996? Worst case is 1999.
So many functions, regardless of language (@Formula, LS, etc.) have zero problems with this stuff.
It sounds like a basic escaping problem, no doubt with many layers involved which surely adds to the complexity, but I would’ve thought this would be fixed by now.
I would say check the Fix List Database for 8.5.1 FP1, but it’s a ghost town still. Not the greatest sign for something that’s supposed to ship next month.
The Notes guy (ME!) is demoing the Notes 8.5.1 client to a bunch of IT Leadership associates, saying how great it is…so I go to show them this “really nice feature” with calendar overlay - tried to add who else but…ME!
FAIL!!
Nice job IBM! Lots of money spent trying to sell executives on your products, lots of money wasted when it fails right in front of their faces!
I’m a huge fan of Notes, been an Admin for 8+ years…but it’s frustrating when these type of quality issues are not tested. An apostrophe should not be treated any different than any other letter, period!
Subject: 8.5.1FP4 just came out, you could give that a shot.
Though I think it’s one of the things fixed in 8.5.2. Disclaimer: 8.5.2 is in beta, fixed apostrophes may not make it into the final product, etc. etc.
