One of my users is experiencing faster speeds through a dial-up connection than with his broadband connection. For normal web stuff he usually gets 800K+ on his broadband connection. But, for Notes, he sees speeds almost twice as fast with his 56K dialup than he gets with broadband. There are definite performance issues with his broadband connection, when using a VPN connection, but it should be resolved by connecting without the VPN connection. With his current Notes connection, is there any kind of encryption similar to what goes on with a VPN? Right now, with Notes and VPN connections often being as slow or slower than a dialup, it’s almost worth dumping broadband until cable internet becomes available.
Any ideas?

Try connecting directly to the Domino Server without the VPN and see if that helps. You can encrypt the traffic by selecting File, Preferences, User Preferences, Ports and checking the Encrypt Network Data box on his TCP/IP port…
Subject: Assymetric connection …
Hi,
just an idea but have you checked if the broadband connection is not assymetric.(different rate for download and upload)
You could have for example 512kbps for download but only 64 kbps for upload.(thats quite common in our region).
For internet browsing it does not matter but for notes-replication it is actually not much better then an 64kb - conection.
An other idea would be if the broadband is over satellite because the are very long resonse times.
Write which kind of broadband connection you are using.
Hope this helps.
