Bookmark.NTF Error

Hi,When I try and install Lotus Notes 8.0.2 I get the following message: “The Notes client requires an up to date bookmark template, BOOKMARK.NTF. Please obtain a copy and restart Notes.” I can install the client on another vista machine without any problems. Any one have any ideas?!

Subject: very old/corrupt installation?

It sounds like it doesn’t like a copy of the bookmark.ntf that is present in the notes data directory or install directory. (Perhaps a leftover file from very old/corrupt installation?) Search for that existing bookmark.ntf file and remove it. Replace it with the one from the machine that worked.

Note that this *.NTF is just the template, so this should not remove any bookmarks the current user has in place.

Subject: please try this

I am not sure why this is happening. Perhaps the bookmark.nsf file is corrupt on that system?
Could you please try the following:

Exit Notes

Rename bookmark.nsf to bookmark.bak

Launch Notes

A new bookmark.nsf should be created for you. (If not, then something more serious is going on - the template bookmark.ntf might be missing or corrupt)

If you had a heavily-customized bookmark.nsf file, there are other steps you could take (after completing the above) to try to salvage it.

Subject: Bookmarks.NTF error

thanks guys! I uninstalled notes (again) and removed all the folders in the user/apps dir. re-installed and the problem went away. I guess there must have been a older version of the software on the machine at some point. Thank you all for your suggestions.

Subject: did you bring a bookmark file from another machine?

Hi,

When you installed 802, a bookmark template, bookmark.NTF should have been installed. This template will have the 802 design and it is used to create bookmark.nsf during an initial install or to replace the existing file’s design during an upgrade. I would grab the bookmark.ntf from that other 802 Vista machine and place it in the data directory of the problem machine. Then, I would replace design of bookmark.nsf. You can do so at a command prompt:

  1. CD to the NOTES directory (this is where the nconvert.exe is)

  2. Enter this:

nconvert bookmark.nsf * bookmark.ntf

  1. Enter the password to the Notes user ID.

Try launching Notes again after this.

Good luck.
