Bookmark.nsf file disappears

The last couple of days, we’ve had one subset of our users ‘loosing’ bookmark.nsf. When they go to start Notes, the load is aborted because bookmark.nsf is missing.

Our Notes environment is:

User workstation has Notes executables.

User’s network drive contains everything else - ini file, bookmark, desktop, dat dir.

Users with this problem all run wireless connections the the network.

Network drive is on a NetApp and we can find copies of the bookmark.nsf file in the ~Snapshot directory. Yesterday, I found copies about 2 hours old (file would have been deleted some time between 5 and 6 am)

Yesterday, the issue hit 5 of about 40 users. Not sure how many had the issue today.

Is there ANYTHING in Notes that would kill bookmark.nsf?

Anybody have any other ideas what could be causing the problem?

TIA.

Doug

Subject: Bookmark.nsf file disappears

Hey Doug, just my .02 cents, but I have seen where the file would become corrupted if the files were located on a shared network drive, never seen it actually get deleted.

That being said, regardless if it was deleted, since the bookmark.ntf is present, once the user launches Notes, a new bookmark.nsf would get generated.

It appears that the ntf is also gone. I did the experiment on my system to remove the nsf but leave the ntf and, as you say, the nsf file is rebuilt. When I removed both the nsf and ntf, I get the error ‘bookmark missing’ (or something like that).

We’ve not had problems with the files being corrupted and we’ve been doing this kind of set up since R 3.2.

I did find some references to file corruption created by the backup software if the files were open so I’m checking to see if our backups are running when the users are coming on-line and if there is any correlation between backup and these specific users.

Thank you for the reply.
