Bookmark confusion

I have created a new holiday database by copying last year’s. When I open it via File / Database / Open, it’s okay. I drag the icon onto the left hand bookmarks. When I open the database using this bookmark, it opens last year’s database.

I have tried deleting cache and boomark files and starting again but the same happens.

Am I missing something fundamental?

As a troubleshooting measure, try this:

  1. Exit Notes and rename the following files:

cache.ndk, desktop6.ndk and bookmark.nsf

  1. Restart Notes and add your bookmark to the holidays database. Drag it to the lefthand bookmarks. Click on it to test.

Tried that…

I opened the new database first, then tried the old but I’m stuck on the new database all the time.

Previously, I was stuck on the old database.

Thank you for the pointer.

When you say “by copying last year’s” what exactly do you mean? Did you create an OS level copy or create a new replica of last years? Either of these ways would result in the 2 dbs having the same replica ID which could be causing the confusion. Just a thought.

I did an OS copy and then edited in Designer so that Filenames / titles etcetera were different.

That is what is causing the problem. Create a new copy of the old database via “File/Database/New Copy”. This way a different/unique replica ID will be assigned to it. Replica IDs are how Bookmarks work and having 2 databases on a server with the same replica ID is bad on so many levels.

Again, simply do the create new by above directions and then delete the one you created via OS copy/paste. Then re-bookmark this new database and you’ll be set.
