Bookmark bar is causing multiple windows of the database

Something we found with the bookmark bar

We dragged and dropped a shortcut to our application onto the bookmark bar. When it was selected, we got 2 windows . One window was just the standard Notes view while the other was how the app normally looked (in a frameset).

I removed the shortcut on the bookmark bar and just used the one on the workspace but the same issue occurred. Once I removed bookmark.nsf everything was fine.

In summary, just use the workspace! The bookmark bar really causes headaches in this one (6.01).

Subject: Bookmark.nsf corrupts easily

Maybe corrupt is the wrong technical word, but whatever it is, I am finding that at least 3-4 times a week I have to delete somebody’s bookmark.nsf file, then let notes create a new one (325 users). Fortunately, my users don’t need to rely on the bookmarks because we have a welcome database that acts as a portal giving them all their links based on the users roles and groups. Its easy to fix, but what bothers me are the unreported problems my users have. Some of them have broken bookmark files causing all sort of strange phenomena, but they don’t report it…they just think “that’s Notes”.

Subject: RE: Bookmark.nsf corrupts easily

It’s not the bookmark bar that’s “corrupted”, it the way that the user created the bookmark.

Dragging a Workspace button to the bookmark bar bookmarks the currently open view, doc, etc - not the Database.

Therefore, when the user selects the chicklet on the workspace, it uses the Default “Notes Launch” option from the database properties (the same as File → DB → Open) which probably means they get the frameset you created as the “Nice” display for the DB. When they select the bookmark, they go directly to the view in the DB without the frameset (Thus the standard notes navigator).

This can be corrected by changing the view properties so that when launched it “autoframes” to the main frame in the desired frameset.

That way, users directly bookmarking a view are always given the display they expected, just like when they first opened the DB.

Subject: Maybe its nof corruption, but its something bad

Hi–this is a case where I wouldn’t be so quick to blame the end user. I consider myself to be pretty well trained in Domino development and immediately following my upgrade to the 6.0.2CF2 client, guess what happened? Well, now my mail bookmark opens my mail ALWAYS to the Sent View for my mailserver replica, and to the Inbox view of my local mailbox replica. I compacted the database and workspace, re-added the bookmark and everything. What worked? Deleting bookmarks.nsf. Now I am normal again…for now. I can’t figure out why, but I know what fixes it.

I get this as well. Many others have reported this and IBM/Lotus is strangly. What causes bookmarks.nsf to cause notes clients to hang on startup?
