Blackberry and enforced passwords

We have installed Blackberry Enterprise Server on our Domino server. The blacberry handhelds have no enforced password policy. It is my understanding that Blackberry has an IT policy Manager which controls settings for password on a blackberry in an Exchange environment but not Domino. Does someone in this user community know of a way to enforce password policies on a blackberry handheld which is part of a Domino environment?

I’m fairly sure this feature will not be released until BES version 4.0 which is due out later this year. We currently have the same issue right now. We’ve requested that our users password lock their device but we dont have a way to enforce it at the moment. With version 4.0 of the bes both domino and exchange will be at the same level as far as features and functionality goes.

Also, just fyi…I would highly suggest subscribing to T-Support which RIM offers. There are several different levels of t-support but so far I’m satisfied with the level of support I’m getting out of the first level of support (T-1). In my experience T-Support is MUCH better than any support that a vendor can provide.

Hi,

There is a way that you can enforce the password on the BlackBerry device. You need to create or modify the standard IT policy file. IT Policy file provided by RIM contains the required information about the various keys and the values. Use the tool provided by RIM.

Send this file to all users and place it under the Desktop Manager install directory. Ask user to restart Desktop Manager and synchronize the device. This will force the user to enable the password on the device.
