Beware of upgrading to Domino 8.5 if you use PHP

If you run a Web site using PHP under Domino, do not upgrade to 8.5. The server will likely crash as soon as any PHP page is accessed. I had opened a PMR on this issue and was told that PHP is not supported on Domino and the bug would not be fixed.

Subject: Well PHP as cgi was supported in the past and is still mentioned in the helpfile?

Scripts written in Perl, Python und PHP are mentioned.

Subject: That’s what I thought. Here is a quote from Support…

I have received the reply from our L2 support team. They confirmed my understanding that even though the php run on Domino platform, it is not officially supported. This is mentioned in the Technote# 1099845 which was based on the SPR# AJAN6TDSWX.

Subject: Found problem, general cgi problem, not just php

spr IDAO7NAF9E, if you need a fix please escalate a pmr requesting a hot fix for this spr, sign/unsigned issue causing a crash in strncpy. Regression from 80x

Subject: Thanks, Mike

That is excellent news. I’ve emailed my support contact passing along the SPR and will hopefully be able to receive a hotfix soon.

Thanks for your help and support.

Subject: Support is slow on this…

I’ve been told there was an SPR and if there is a hotfix, they are generally “created for certain customer to address certain issue. It will not be given out to everyone as it might have adverse effect to different environment.”

It’s frustrating that the support person is in a completely different timezone and I am lucky to get an email response by the next day.

Still waiting.

Subject: Working in 8.51 and 8.51 fp1

I just want to say that I spoke with support about this one and they pointed me to a page that says it works in 8.51. Sure enough, I tried it and my pages load as they do in 7.2.
