Hi guys,
I am currently administrate 2 Domino servers. One main server, the other is a cluster of the main one. This setting was set by the previous admin, and it’s been there since I join the company. He told me that the cluster server run as a backup for the main server. This two server has the different name, different IP. I just don’t understand how it work when the main server is down and the cluster take over. Do we need to change IP addr of the cluster or something??
I have read from the help docs. It suggested the me to back up the entire Domino directory. And also the transaction log. How should I plan with this two thing. Should back up this two at the same time?? How often should I do the backing up job?? Currently the Domino directory is 33Gb big. Is there any tools to help me out in this??
Thanks a lot for ur comment guys

Notes clustering is transparent to the users (mostly), so if your main server goes down then users will automatically be routed to the cluster/backup server. Note that this can also happen if the ‘load’ on the main server is excessive.
With regards to the best way to do things its a big subject but to get you going:
-
yes you need to backup the domino directory but you should look at a full backup of the directory on a sat night, and then just backup the transaction logs during the week.
-
i would only backup the live/main server and leave the cluster/backup
Have fun

Hi
this article is old but still relevant, it covers the concepts you’re asking about. There are two articles - the second one is linked to this one.
