Benifits of Transaction Logging and DAOS?

I was interested in setting up DAOS so that we can enable the attachment consolidation feature of the new version. In reading how to do this I find out that I must enable transaction logging. To my surprise, this is more complicated than just changing a setting to “enabled”. It is advised to set up transaction logging on a separate RAID drive on a separate controller than the domino server software resides on. This will incur some cost to us as we would need to purchase 2 drives and hot-swap cages for our server specifically for this function. I think the smallest drive we can purchase is a 74GB drive. From what I am reading I need 4GB so this will be more than enough room.

My question is this, are there other benefits to enabling transaction logging and DAOS other than just for attachment consolidation. We have what I would consider a pretty simple setup of a single mail server for 75 users with no additional functionality except as the email system for the company. No SameTime, no Lotus traveler, very few web users. Just email/calendar. We’ve been upgrading every other year or so since Domino 4.6. Last year we upgraded to 8.5 and now 8.5.1. Is it going to be worth the cost (probably about $500) for these two drives and cages and setup?
