Hi. I am new to Lotus Notes 8, and am trying to setup in a demo environment with one of our software products.
I have Lotus Notes 8.0.1 installed. I created and registered a new user, however when I go to their Notes client, I am not able to access their mailbox. I get the message:
You are not authorized to access that database.
How can I get past this?
Subject: User ID and password
You need to log in to the client using the user ID and password associated with the mail file that you want to open. When you registered the user you had the option to create the ID file on your PC in the C:\program files\ibm\lotus\notes\data\ids directory, or you had the option to create it in the Domino Directory (names.nsf within the server’s data directory). If you chose the latter option, you’ll find the user’s ID within their Person document. Locate the ID and save it to the previously mentioned directory.
Now open up your local address book by clicking on File → Open → Lotus Notes Application and selecting the names.nsf on your PC. Click on the Advanced view and then click on the New button and select Location. Click on each tab and fill in the correct information. The Location Name in the Basics tab is arbitrary. If you’re unsure of any of the information about the server look in your Server document. On the Advanced tab be sure to click on the button beneath the “User ID to Switch to” field and select the correct ID. Once the process is completed, you should be able to click on the button in the lower right-hand corner and select the new location, log in, and open up the user’s mail file.
Since you’re new to Notes, you may be unaware of the help databases that are included with the code. There is one for each Notes client (mail client, Admin client, Designer client). These databases can be found in the Help subdirectory of you’re local client data directory as well as your server’s data directory. These databases contain a lot of valuable information that you may find useful in the process of familiarizing yourself with Lotus Notes and Domino.
Subject: not able to open user mail using the user Lotus Notes home page
thanks. I think the problem is that when I open the user mail with the user, I can open the mail if I go to File > open, but the default home page links for mail are pointing to my administrator.nsf for some reason.
How do I change these home page links in Lotus Notes?
Subject: Location document
From the user’s Notes client open up their local names.nsf. Click on the Advanced view and select Locations. Open their location document (Office is the default) and click on the Mail tab. Make sure that the “Mail file:” field is populated with the location of the user’s mail file on the server (ex. mail/jdoe.nsf).
