Before New Mail Arrives Agent -When Will It Go Off?

I have a mail-in DB for resumes that was set-up 4-5 yrs. ago. i.e resumes@abc.com. HR now wants an auto-reply to be sent out whenever a new resume comes in ie. We received your resume, will be in touch, etc. etc.

I am going to use an “before new mail arrives” agent, but need to confirm that it will only fire on new doc’s received in the in-box after I enable the agent.

While there aren’t any doc’s in the in-box presently, there are a number in folders in the DB. I really don’t want this agent “firing” on hundreds of old submissions.

My understanding is it won’t since it works before the router deposits in the in-box, but can anyone confirm for sure this is the case?

Tks.

Colin, your assumption is absolutely correct, the agent trigger “BEFORE new mail arrives” is handled by the router on delivery of new mails, so it won’t touch existing documents in the maildb.

I guess you were unlucky in the past with using agents of trigger type “new or modified documents” ? That would indeed do what you want to avoid…

Tks. Stefan for your comments.

BTW - last year one of the developers made a change to an agent on a DB with a trigger of new / modified - 15,000 notifications later… what a mess. Luckily the servers couldn’t process them quick enough out of the mail.box and I was able to stop it before they actually got delivered.
