Basic Mode problem

Hi,

I have one desktop and one laptop, due to bad performance on desktop, I swiched Notes into Basic Mode. Yesterday I got a new laptop, after install Notes client, everything went smoothly but right after I close Notes and re-open, the Notes interface turned into Basic Mode.

I tried to remove data folder, re-install Notes client, no matter what I did, it turned into basic.

I also let my slow desktop machine back into standard Notes 8.5 interface, and copied all data folder and overwrote my laptop Notes data folder, and it didn’t work.

Now my desktop is standard mode and my laptop is basic mode, I re-installed Notes client for over 10 times yesterday.

Can anyone here help me?

Many thanks

Derrick

Subject: basic mode

Assuming you’ve installed the correct version, there are two ways it could be loading the basic instead of the standard.

Either, in your notes.ini there’s a line UseBasicNotes=1, or your programme shortcut includes “…\notes.exe -sa”

Check these and fix if necessary

Subject: Basic Mode problem

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Don’t know why the problem seems to happen randomly, this morning I open Notes, and it’s basic mode, and 5 minutes ago after I restart laptop, now the Notes is in standard mode, don’t know if it would turn back to basic mode next time I start the system.

I checked Notes.ini, it’s strange, I can’t locate where the file is, I knew I can change Notes into basic mode by adding “UseBasicNotes=1” in it, but somehow, I found no such file in my computer anymore. I copied that file from my dedktop into my laptop and open Notes, it’s still in basic mode ( I checked no “UseBasicNotes=1” in that file). Also, I checked start menu shortcut, no so called “-sa” at the end of the program path.

Thanks

Derrick

I have seen the exact same thing. You launch, and for no apparent reason, it’s basic. I close, and re-launch, and it’s standard again.

The ini was never changed…

BTW, you should be able to locate the file by searching for notes.ini.

Subject: my advice - don’t install in default Windows directory

Make it install into your own directory (that’s one way of being able to see notes.ini if you have Vista or Win7).

Also, there are other ways of invoking Basi, like launching nlnotes instead of notes. Make sure you don’t have an old icon or link doing that.
