HiI have setup domino mail server and it runs okay, now I am trying to wade thru all the documentation to work out how to setup the server so I can send and recieve messages.

I wish there was a doc that shows a basic setup procedure.

I thought after having run the install and config process I would be able to send an email straight away. But I am getting the error that it failed to connect to the smtp server.

So is there any simple documentation out there that gives a step by step guide.

Or can someone just tell me the order of setting things up??

You should probably start with reading the concept of message routing/transfer on a Domino server. Basically there are two types: one is between servers within a Domino domain (address book), and the other is from your Domino server to the outside world using protocols like SMTP.The Admin Help database has pretty good information on how to configure your Domino server to accomplish the above scenarios. You may want to start with : “Overview of routing mail using Notes routing”.

Specific to SMTP: “Configuring Domino to send and receive mail over SMTP”.
