Some years ago, after releasing R5 and planning RNext / R6, there were rumors that Lotus planned to add a backup function for personal files like desktop.dsk, names.nsf, notes.ini etc. Should be some kind of a replication to a domino server. Actually I still use R5 but I did not read anything about it anymore. I also found not information in R6 helpfile…? Does anyone know whether this is implemented? May be easy to check for someone with a R6 client…
Sorry, was posted twice

Subject: partial solution: use roaming
The roaming user feature will place a couple of personal files on an administrator-specified network location: a file server, a map on the domino server. Every time the user logs off, modifications will be replicated. You don’t actually have to use the roaming feature for this to work.
Subject: roaming or not roaming
With roaming, you can have more than databases stored in server.
Let the user roam is especially done to have this elements stored in server :
Welcome Page, Bookmarks, Preferences Settings, Address Book, Journal (log), and id file.
The process of roaming can be differenciated from a single replication process from client to server in many ways.
First, it is an easy-to-use and easy-to-configure service that will allow administrator to declare a user as being able to retrieve his personal files very easily from any notes client authorized to.
Second for user, simply think the fact that he does not need a disk with his id or a shared network drive storing his id when moving !
By the way, roaming used ( not only but it’d be rather) by user working with Multi-User installation of Notes Client is much more powered…
