Backup of Notes dbs while server is running

Hi, We have a backup team that does a file level backup weekly on all the servers on the network. However since the Domino server is running without interruption, the database files being backed up are backed up while open. This results in a corrupted database when that backup copy (made while the db was open) is used.

Is there a utility or method or agent that can backup any and all Notes databases nightly?

Thanks,

-MC

Hi,

Ask your backup team to look for an “agent” to hot backup.

Almost every backup system have an agent to backup open files, like oracle, exchange, domino, and so on.

look for a Domino specific backup agent for your backup solution.

open file backup agents might get the file backed up but I’ve seen lots of corruptions making those backups less reliable (don’t forget, even while there might not be any users accessing the databases, there are still server processes that might alter the database like scheduled agents, indexing etc.)

Cheers.

What are you using to backup the DB now? I know in some prior programs that we used to back up DB thre is a checkbox not to lock the DB during the backup and this eliminated the corruption problem.
