Backing up Lotus Notes Database

Hi all,

My department is currently looking to remove some obsolete Lotus Notes Application Databases from the server.

We would like to enquire what is the best method to backup these databases (into a removable storage device) before removing them from the production server?

I understand that the Managers of the database will be able to create a copy of the database, but will there be any implications in event that we are required to put the backup copy back into production environment?

Thank you for reading.

Why not first putting them on a separate drive with a directory link. And after a x period of time remove them to cd.

Hi Ronny,

Thank you for your reply.

May I understand what would this achieve? Because the databases are monitored and observed that they are pretty inactive.

And when you say “remove them to CD”, does it means backing up the whole drive to CD? Or moving the application seperately.

Thanks.

See Backup of Database means backups all the document which are stored in that NSF file .

ok so take a replicated copy on a archiving disk and remove that applcation from Server . and when u want to depoyed it again then simply make a copy again on the server.

thanks

If backing up to a read only device i.e CD, make sure you build all the view indexes first or you won’t be able to read it from the disc properly. i.e CTRL SHIFT F9 in the db before backing up.
