Back button in Discussion db - embedded outline gets 'blacked out'

I have a discussion database based on the discussion template. Applet references have been removed and it runs really well but the browser is still having one issue.

If you open a document by clicking on a link in the right frame and then click on the Back browser button or ‘go back’ link (onClick = history.back()) the embedded outline in the frame to the left gets blacked out. If you hit the browser’s Back button again, the black box goes away and it displays like it should.

Any ideas on what might be causing this? Telling my users to click on the Back button twice doesn’t seem to be a reasonable solution. ; )

Try taking a backup of the form and then change the onlick event to open the frameset you want. If you have to have Back Button functionality you could always do a refresh() on the frameset event onload.

Subject: events on Frameset? embedded outline gets ‘blacked out’. -

Hi Shawn - Thanks for responding. I haven’t worked with framesets a lot (that’s why I’m using the discussion template as a starting point) but I’m not seeing any events on the Frameset. I can get into Properties for the frameset, but I don’t see any events.

I tried adding refresh() to the OnLoad for the page that contains the embedded outline(the part that gets blacked out). Is that what you were referring to?

Julie,

A double apology, first for the timely delay. (At a wedding in FL) and the second, for the misleading post. As you astutely pointed out, there are no events in the framset. Yes, you put code in the page you want to refresh.

Check out these JS functions that force a refresh through several mechanisms. (Not my work!! Credit to those much brighter than I)

In the onload event make sure you have selected ‘Web’ and ‘javascript’ for the onload event properties.

Cheers,

Subject: Goofy workaround - embedded outline gets ‘blacked out’. -

The javascript didn’t resolve the issue, but I did find a goofy workaround. The Frame that was getting blacked out is in the middle of the left side of the frameset. I tried adding a new frame with the same settings to see if the new frame also got blacked out. It didn’t. Aha! - corrupt frame! So I deleted the old frame. Wrong answer. Now the new frame gets blacked out.

The workaround? I added a tiny frame above the navigation frame. Now the tiny frame gets blacked out, but since it’s not visible, no one cares. (the tiny frame contains a page that’s black - with white hidden text explaining what it’s for). I think it might have something to do with the graphic that’s in the frame above - but having spent way too much time troubleshooting this issue I’ve decided that my goofy workaround will suffice.

Thanks for your help - I’ll keep a link the grizzlyweb as a resource for the future.
