Yesterday our mail server went down and we have to restart it . It started doing the consustency check and hasn’t stopped yet .
Because of this we have to put the server out of network and users are using the replica server copies.
Can anyone throw some light as to what would have gone wrong ? Also, when the server is rebooted/restarted is it that the consistency check is done on the mail fiels as well?
You can ease the amount of time needed for the consistency checks by enabling Transaction Logging. When a Domino server starts it looks for databases that may need to be checked. After finding them it proceeds to check them. I think that it should look for system databases and do them first. After doing that the server should allow access and then start checking non-system databases. But this is just what I think should happen.
I have seen the log file take a long time to be checked. I will generally just take down the server again, rename it to log.nsf.date, then load the server again. But as for the other databases, you may have to let it go. Anyone else have thoughts?
It seems that the Consistency check process started running on the mail files and it hung . Well, we have to put the users on the replica server , due to which there were performance issues . The Admin had deleted the Transactional Log and that was the root cause for this problem.
