Automate XP and Domino Creation

Does anybody know if there is any way of sucking data from an Oracle HR system and automatically create both an XP and Domino user ? Id imagine there would be a lot of scripting and creating batch files to create the XP user but I thought sombody may have already done something similar ?

You should be able to write a script that will output to a text file. The text file can be imported when registering accounts in batches. Check out the Help file for the correct format:

“Registering users from a text file”

Im virtually sure ADS allows for mass NT account creation from Text file import as well

Thanks for the response Eamonn. I did look into the text file import the only issue is that IT support are asking for a completly automated solution as some days there will be one new user others there will be 10! I was going to look into the adminP request that domino creates on a manual user creation and try to simulate that in a script but i just though somebody may know of a better way

You could use a piece of middleware e.g. LEI to export new user data from the Oracle HR system into Domino, and then have an agent create the Adminp requests when this info is received or on a schedule.

Obviously LEI costs money. Domino comes with Domino Enterprise Connection Services, DECS, that I believe facilitates reading from external DBs on the fly, (I’ve not used this tool). DECS may offer the functionality.

I did think about the Domino A/D sync tool that would create the WinXP account in AD simultaneously, but this is not appropriate for you because the Domino admin client does not get used in the process, which is a pre-requisite for ADSync.

There are other directory aggregation tools that will do this for you but of course they do cost money.

Hope this helps … a bit anyway.

Would there be any danger of identical account names, overwrites etc? Or will it check first and come up with alternatives (add number or middle name/initial)…

Ive still not got around to it yet but ive had a look at a few third party products but they all seem to involve user intervention. My plan now is to set up a dummy environment and create an agent that mimics the user creation process, eg: creates the adminP request. Ill check for any duplication against the NAB before I sumbit the name. Ive no idea if its even possible yet but ill give it a try

LDAP lookups might… should, find matches (if any). If it finds a match add in a middle initial or failing that middlename (or failing that a number). That parts easily automated.

You could have it automatically write out to a text file (+ create policys beforehand). You can randomise the password entries at time of writting out to the text file (as well as writing out to a password file for future use/record)

Then once a day run the registration for the Text file (itll hold as many registration entries as you need, be it 1 or 10…). Ok its not totally automated, but its close.

Im virtually sure LDAP can be used to by-pass the builtin Notes registration method. Not sure how but… Thats why God invented Google
