Autmoated install with parameters

At work, we are currently making automated install packages for all programs that should be installed on our users workstations. I’m currently making an automated installation of Lotus Notes (silent install).

I’ve used the Install Shield Tuner for Lotus Notes, and the installation works beautifully. I’ve also managed to set a few things in to the notes.ini file during installation. Among these things are the lotusserver that the user should connect to when logging on, the passthrough server and a few other things.

However, there are lots of things that I’ve found settings for, that just won’t work, no matter how I try to apply them. In addition, there are several things that I want to set beforehand, which I just haven’t found any settings for. I’m starting to think that some of them aren’t possible to set.

Here are the list of things I’m trying to set automatically, so that when the user logs on to the notes client for the first time, all these settings are ready:

  • Default data directory (sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t)

  • Address to sametime server

  • Set Sametime to automatically remember password

  • Automatically change status when a meeting starts in the calendar

  • Automatically set it to log all chats

  • Configure the chat window to have 24 hour timestamps, more than one conversation in the same window with downwards tabs.

  • Automatically set it to use the OS’ default browser, in stead of the built in browser

  • Activate the widget panel

  • Automatically dock the open list

  • Insert a couple of pre-defined rss-channels

In addition I would also like to include several widgets and plugins, which should be installed automatically. Among these is the File Navigator.

Any feedback on this, or pointers to guides on how to achieve this will be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes,

Hogne Bø Pettersen

Subject: Not set using a MSI/MST tool

Data directory can be configured using DATADIR or MULTIUSERBASEDIR/MULTIUSERCOMMONDIRMost of your settings are set using the install kits plugin_customization.ini, or for Sametime settings you may use a Sametime policy.

Feeds are preconfigured using an appropriate presetfeeds.opml file

Plugins/Widgets should be deployed using a Widget catalog

Subject: Googling

Thank you so much for leading my in the right direction. I’m currently reading through all I can find on google.

If you have any links with good resources for learning about this, I would be most grateful.

Best wishes,

Hogne
