Attachments received as *.dat file(s)

Good afternoon,

We have recently convert to Lotus Domino 6.5.3 and we have some clients which are sending emails to us but we are receiving the attachments as *.dat file(s) instead of *.xls files. I am the administrator, so when the email was send to me, I receive it as an *.xls attachment! The file was delivered to an external email account, and I get *.xls file. Is there a problem with Lotus conversion or something else?

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,

Bernard

To open, use WMParserhttp://www.magicwinmail.net/wmparser/

The reason for .dat files is a checkbox in the Outlook or MS Exchange that forces to use them.

Hi there

It may be related to the following re: winmail.dat files:

Many times you might receive an email with an attachment called winmail.dat. The file is sent from people using Microsoft Outlook as their email program. The file allows Outlook users to send Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format (TNEF) information along with the email so that it retains the look and feel of the document with formatting, fonts, and colors when its received by another Microsoft Outlook user.

Unfortunately, the file is only relevant and used by Microsoft Outlook. Users of Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape Messenger, and other email programs will receive the attachment called winmail.dat with the email.

The file is attached to the email because the original sender is sending emails in Microsoft Outlook Rich Text Format instead of Plain Text format.

Found an agent that can be incorporated into the mail file template that opens winmail.dat emails, Tested and works fine on Notes 651 and 653.Think this is where I got the code:-nsftools - Lotus Notes and Domino Tips

Subject: Good one

Great, will try it as it is a way better than to install an application on every end user’s computerTnx
