Attachment issue: Migrating Local Outlook data via Domino Admin Client

We are planning to migrate one of our customer to Domino mail. They are currently using Outlook POP3 email with their local ISP running on WinXP SP3 desktops.

We would like to migrate their local Outlook 2003 SP3 data to their Domino server mailbox.

We used the Domino Domino Admin feature to convert local Outlook PST data to a Notes mailbox which seemed to work. However, the file attachments are not accessible in read mode when using a Notes 8.0.2 Basic client. As a workaround the user needs to ‘reply with attachments’ or ‘forward with attachments’ just to access the attachment. This is unacceptable.

Basically, I am trying to convince a potential customer to migrate their environment from POP3 to Domino 8.0.2. I set-up a proof of concept demo in their office as described below.

The emails were migrated from their local Outlook PST file. I migrated their local Outlook PST file to the server by (1) using the “Send Upgrade Notfication” button in the Domino Admin client,(2) installed a Notes 8.0.2 Basic client on the user’s desktop to kick-off the migration, (3) copied the local Notes archive db containing the migrated mail to server.

The migration and everything worked perfectly, however, the attachments are not accessible in read mode. Maybe if I run a Notes add-on tool such as AttachZIP I can fix the issue (reattaching to the Body field via a Notes client) ? I will try this next.

Thank you,

Lance

I used the AttachZIP tool which fixed the attachment issue. Users can now see the attachments in read mode. Also, the mailbox size had been optimized since AttachZIP forced native Notes LZ1 attachment compression.
