is there a way to attach an ID file to a mail file after the fact?

I’ve often wondered about this as well. I know of no documentation on this, but I just took a little look-see at my own mailfile, and I found my ID file stored as a V2-style attachment in a profile document with no Form item, but a $Name item containing the value “$profile_010$shimmerid_”.

I dont know what you mean with ‘after the fact’. But you could attach the id in the person document.

Hi Patrick, thanks, I guess what I meant is that Notes will attach it automatically when you create the ID, but in the case I’m working with, Mail files were migrated to a new server and new IDs were created - and the resulting empty mail files deleted and replaced with the old mail files so they wouldn’t loose their docs.

I suppose that the new mail files could be used but is there a way to copy all that information over from the old multi-gig files? … there are no encrypted/signed docs.
