Archiving on local failure

I have been used to archiving e-mails from the Inbox by dragging and dropping particular item(s) from to “Tools/Archive/Last modified” archive criteria (on the left side of the LN screen, below the folders). Clicking on the “Last modified” the archive used to be open in a new tab. Yesterday, I dropped an item on “Tools/Archive” instead of “Tools/Archive/Last modified”. The application offered me to create a new archive criteria. After creating the new one, I got two archive criteria active. After deleting the newer one, the old one does not work as well anymore. My archive file is ok, stored on local drive D:, I can open it either from Windows Explorer or from the bookmark in the Lotus Notes. I can move items from Inbox to Archive using CTRL X - CTRL V combination. All the paths and settings in the Archive settings have not been changed but I can not open the archive by clicking on the “Last modified” nor archive the documents by dragging and dropping the items from inbox to the “Last Modified” in Tools/Archive. The application says that the server can not find address of the local server-database even it is specified in the archive criteria settings. Thanks for posting any help.

Subject: Either your Archive Settings are wrong or your profile has gotten corrupted

Hi - That obviously shouldn’t happen, and we haven’t seen that here.

Just to make sure I understand the scenario: You had a criteria set that you were actively using. You created another criteria set, which also worked correctly. You deleted the second criteria set (through Archive Settings UI), and the original set no longer fully works. When you select the criteria set on Archive Settings’ Criteria pane, the explanatory text below this (in light gray box) cites the correct location? Filename and server (or local)?

If not, you need to fix that. If you’re certain that Archive Settings references your archive database correctly, then it’s possible that your profile was corrupted. In this case, I would recommend modifying and re-saving your existing archive criteria set – or deleting and re-creating it.

Subject: Profile corrupted?

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for comments. You are right with your understanding of what has happpend. I have deleted and re-created the profile several times, but it has not helped. When I dragg and dropp an Inbox item to the Archive Profile pane or when I click on the name of the profile therein, the Notes log looks like (my translation from Slovak to English - Virgin is a name of Lotus server):

  • Address of local server is requested from Virgin on TCPIP.

  • Address of local server is requested from Virgin on LAN0.

  • Error while connecting to the Virgin: Remote system does not respond.

  • Searching of database local in TCPIP using address for local.

  • Searching of database local in LAN0using address for local.

  • No path for local found; path to the server can not be found; Check out your network connection; If the connection works, go to Preferences - Ports etc.

  • Archiving done, Number of archived documents: 0.

Please note, my network connection is ok, communication with the Virgin server is ok, I can handle my e-mails, calendar, tasks, other databases stored on Virgin, except archiving via Profile. I can archive by copying or cutting items from inbox to archive database.

Thats it.

Thankx again, appreciate your response.

Rastislav

Subject: Good – that all suggests no corruption

All of this sounds like a problem with the info on Archive Settings’ Basics pane. Is this being set by a policy (in which case, the radio button selection and archive destination info would be greyed out)? Are you archiving from your home server replica of mailfile or a local replica?
