Why,Why,Why would Lotus re-design archiving functionality when they can’t even fix the existing problems with previous versions???Archiving in Notes is the WORST ever! The archive settings aren’t end user friendly at all(how do you explain archive criteria to an end user?), client-based archiving isn’t work for me(Lotus keeps switching me to a different tech because they’re all clueless when it comes to archiving), response documents still get archived, error messages make no sense, and I could go on. They fix one thing and end up breaking a tons more!
Sorry had to vent…but for the love of God, document it properly and have technical staff available that can explain how it works!

I think the real question or request here is to ask if anyone has found a good source of documentation or information on explaining the differences of the archiving settings to users. I am also getting many complaints and questions from users. They feel they had just figured out R5 processes (somewhat) and now there are so many more options within the archive settings. Has anyone come across an end-user-friendly way of helping to explain or document how they should be configuring archiving to work now? Any help would be appreciated.Thanks

and once again there is a help file which explains things. It even shares how to configure archiving rules for mail files. It even walks through how to archive a mail file memo document but not the calendar entries. Hmmm remarkable how all that was found in such a resource which is provided with the server.

I know about those help files thank you. They lack a section for explaining error messages. For example,try finding what this error means in the help files “there are no archive policies setup for this mailfile.” IBM support was stumped, of course, I finally figured it out.
Main problem is that the ND6 interface has too many options/features now. Our users will definetly be confused.

Sonia (or anyone else),I’m having the same problem. I have a policy in place. I just want the users to archive locally. It seems like it can’t do it until I put in ‘enable archiving’ in the archive settings at the workstation.
How did you figure it out and what is your resolution?

In the mentioned post you show an example with authentication by auth login command. Please, could you explain to me how entering the username and password. Both are encrypted in a way probably. I don’t know how to enter them correctly to be authenticated. For example, how to enter the username Milan?
Could you send me your email? I look now for any way how to code non US characters in email subjects. May be, you know how to do it as well. I am used to use Java.
There is no legimate compliment. You have not share any information about it being flawed.
There are resources available to learn about the archiving – LDD and the help file. So if you have a compliment then list it otherwise leave the attitude at the door.
If want to yell at IBM then call them and talk with your sales folk. Though IBM is hosting the forum, there are people here who would be (and possibly be) more irked at you and the rudeness this posting.
