I have a user who keeps EVERY single email they get. He’s a lawyer, so I understand a little bit. Anyway, I have him archive to a local database so he doesn’t eat up so much space on our main server and so he can take his archive with him when he travels. His archive DB is about 3gig in size and he’s complaining that sometimes, his archive won’t open and he has to try multiple times, sometimes rebooting, to get into it. He’s got a fairly nice laptop, a Latitude X300, so it’s nothing too old. Does anyone else have users experience trouble with DB’s that get this big? I suspect this is his issue, but I wanted to check with other admins. Thanks for your help!
Subject: Archive size question
Well if he is continuing to add new documents, he’s going to have the database index being recreated when he opens the database. That’s a lot of documents to index. I would suggest making a new archive now and he’ll just have to switch between the two databases. If the large archive stops changing, the index won’t need to be recreated.
