Hi,
On my Domino servers, i’ve indicated that only the admin group can create dbs or models.
The drawback is that when a user wants to archive on the server, everything seems to work but the selected mails are removed from the mail db… and discarded as the archive db cannot be created on the server because the user has not the proper rights to do that !
How to circumvent this pb ?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Yan,
Is server-based archiving a possibility? This will require that you add server entries (or LocalDomainServers) to the ‘Create Databases and Templates’ field on the server document, and it will still prevent your users from having this privilege.

Hi,
If you have a policy, you could run a load compact mail\xxx.nsf -a
Normally, it will create the archive db for your users.
Look in the help file for:
Création d’un document de paramètres de politique d’archivage
Archivage de courrier et politiques

Dan, Jean-Yves,
Thanks for your suggestions.
Yes, i’ve first proposed the server’s archive solution based on the policies which works not so bad. But, the users cannot decide when and what to archive and that was not accepted, so i had to go back.
In fact, i would like to let them archive when and what they want but imose them the location of their archives, ie on my Domino server.
Not so easy, even thru the policies: if the user can configure the archive settings (what to archive for example) he also can decide where it should be.
If you have any other ideas, let me know.

From what i remember, if you have a policy, the users cannot change the location and the settings.
Also, why would thay want to archive on local, you call 'sell" your idea (Archive on domino server) because it is more reliable (ie : backup)

Hi Jean-Yves,
I think i was not clear enough…
I implemented and tested the archive policies. You have 2 options, which seems to be exclusive: one is to let the archive process be done on the Notes client by the users, the second option is to let it be done by the server (thru the load compact -a command, as you wrote).
The second option was not accepted by our management. So, stays the first option.
Thru the policies, i still can create some criterias and name them and lock them (such as ‘mail older than 120 days’: mail older than 120 days should be placed in the mail archive db situated on the domino server). So the user can choose this criteria but cannot change the settings (and the location). So far, so good.
But, if the if the policy allows users to add another criteria (because they are not suitable), they could tell that the archive db (an new one for example) could be placed locally. And that bothers me (for place, beackup,… reasons).
Also, and that was my first problem, if i kindly ask the users to place the archive dbs on the Domino server, it means that they must have the right to create dbs and/or templates on the Domino server, and are then able to create dbs without any control…
So, guys, how do you impleted archiving at home ?
Any ideas welcome. Thanks
Yan
