Couple of things (and no good answers).

I’m going to be moving from R4.6 to R> 4.6 sometime before the sun blows up and posted the same question a while back. As close as I got to an answer is: Notes has always done a bangup job with backward compatibility. You should expect most stuff to run just fine. Some R6 code (LS I believe) has new parameters. If you leave the code alone, it runs fine. If you edit the code, you get an error and have to fix the problem before you can save the code so the end users neve see the problem.
When we begin the migration, I’m going to buy consulting help to assist in a risk assessment and migration test strategy.

Your big challenge will be if you continue to have R5 clients & servers, and yet start changing application design with R6.
Your best bet? Upgrade all servers NOW to 6.5.3 with the CF update (fixes an LS Currency issue). Once those are done, work on the client migration. You’ll have to figure out how to police your developers to not use 6 to change app designs.
