Apple Mail/IMAP issue

Here’s a strange one.

I have a Lotus Domino server running IMAP, and I’ve had no problems till I got a user that installed Apple mail on OSX - Leopard. (Note this was not a problem using Apple Mail on Tiger).

So… Apple mail is working OK, but when the user moves to a PC (using Mozilla Thunderbird or MS Outlook) accessing via IMAP there is a problem when deleting or moving any message.

The error in Thunderbird is:

The command did not succeed. The server responded: COPY Note item not found.

On the Domino console, the error is:

Unable to add note … to folder in database mail/…nsf: Invalid time or date encountered.

My best guess is that Apple’s IMAP client is making modifications to the document. Not sure. I do know that Apple mail has no problems filing or deleting, and neither does a notes client. However, ALL other IMAP clients get this error after Apple mail does it’s first sync.

This error is also causing a problem when sending mail from Thunderbird when saving a copy to the sent folder.

I’m pretty sure that this is a problem with Apple mail, but it would be important for someone from Lotus to determine the problem, and forward the issue to Apple for quick resolution.

If anyone else has seen this, and knows of a fix… please let me know.

None of the standard Fixup/Compact, etc methods worked. I had to create a new mail file, and pump my mail from the old to the new. Surprisingly, that worked.

Also, if anyone would like the program to copy a mail file to another (document for document preserving folders) please let me know. It’s a LS app, and can also be used to merge one or more mails file into another.

Oh… and it appears the problem was caused by a DST discrepancy at 2am. Or… on of these new Task/Notes in Apple mail. Both appear to be problems.

What a shame too. I kind of like Apple mail. Just not as friendly an IMAP client as Thunderbird.
