Another copy of this document... Bug report?

When I save for the second time a document using ctrl+s or click in a save icon and my database has “Allow document locking” enabled, I get this error:

“Another copy of this document was saved while you were editing it. Save your changes also as a save conflict document?”

This document was open using notesuiworkspace.EditDocument(True, doc)

I found a technote in IBM knowledge base, but it does not solve my problem. The technote mentions that already its solved for R7, but I could prove that it is still not solved.

Thank you in advance and really… sorry for my english.

Subject: Another copy of this document… Bug report?

Hi Guillermo,

I’ve been running into this problem too - I’m on 6.5.3 (6.5.4 server) and won’t be able to upgrade anytime soon to work around it. However, I just noticed a place in my application where I DON’T get the conflict warning and should, so I’m passing it along in case it works for you too.

For some bizarre reason, this seems to work:

Call doc.Lock()

Call ws.EditDocument(True, doc, False, , False, True)

If I comment out the doc.Lock() line, it gives me the conflict errors.

I don’t know if it will work for you (or, to be completely honest, if it will continue to work for me), but maybe someone who understands a lot more about the locking mechanism than I do will see this and offer some insights.

Good luck,

Stephanie

Stephanie, thank you very much, I will try that ASAP .I am not in my office now

Thank you again

Question: if a doc is not saved yet. Can I Call doc.Lock()?

Subject: RE: Another copy of this document… Bug report?

Hi Guillermo,

I’m not completely sure, but I don’t think it can work on a new document that hasn’t been saved yet. I tried it in my application just now to see what would happen and got the error “Invalid or nonexistent document” - so, it doesn’t look good, I’m afraid. (From what I know of locking, I’m not surprised by this, but I wanted to try it anyway to see what would happen.)

Hope you can find a way to get it working!

-Stephanie

to all others looking for a solution:

my customer is on 6.5.3 and had the same problem. doing an .Unlock before using the .EditDocument method resolved my problem.

I get the prints in the status bar “you already have the document locked” - nevertheless it works. seems to me to be a bug.
