Annoying Bug: DNS: Non-existent domain

Greetings All,

Does anyone have a solution/workaround for the following “Annoyance message”:

DNS: Non-existent domain

Here’s the scenario:

Domino 7 on Linux. Two outbound relays listed in the server configuration like this:

“relay1.mydomin.com,relay2.mydomain.com”

…for the purpose of having failover/round-robin. This works fine, and when the second relay is selected for an outbound message, there is no “DNS: Non-existent domain” warning.

If the first relay is selected, the warning appears on the console. Everything works fine anyway, it’s just an erroneous error.

Hopefully, a dev will forward this on…

The field “Relay host for messages leaving the local internet domain:” is a single value field and you can only put one value in it! In your local DNS systen you need one MX-record with two different A-records.

Interestingly, setting the relay host field to have two bracketed ip addresses like:

[xxx.yyy.zzz.1,xxx.yyy.zzz.2]

Works fine, and with no warning message like using host names produces.

Hmmm. This is a bug, methinks. Not an important one, obviously, but probably an easy fix.

OK, I just tried making an outbound-pool DNS record with two A records, one for each relay.

nslookup on that address shows that BIND offers the addresses in round-robin fashion. Good.

Domino, however, only ever uses the first address to send to. Does domino do the lookup once, and cache the first record returned? That would defeat the usefulness of this DNS configuration…

Ideas?

Thanks,

Simple enough to do - I may have to try that.

Note, though, that it does work to list two relays as I have done.
