I am a big “keyboard” person - and prefer to use it instead of the mouse whenever possible.
If I am in my mailbox with an open message displayed on the screen, I will usually ALT-Tab when needing to go to another application. When I use ALT-Tab to return to Notes, I will see the previously opened message momentarily and it will then change to the next message in the mailbox. It does not do this every time, but does seem to do it at least 50% of the time if not more. I’m not sure what I might be doing differently for it to happen some times and not others. The application I am switching to does not seem to make a difference.
being keyboard person as well (still using 5250 a lot) I have spotted this problem too. Alt-TAB to another application and than back to Notes sometimes is causing opened email message to get closed. And I think 50% mentioned above is just about right.

I’m having exactly the same issue as the original poster…so glad I’m not the only one.
This is very frustrating as I use the task switcher (alt + tab) all of the time. I too had noted that for ‘internal emails’ it was not having an issue, but for ‘external emails’ it was happening - and I would say atleast 75% of the time it was happening.
In regard to the release of the Tab or the Alt key first…I’ve found that you have to release the Tab key first anyway for the switcher to work…so was unable to recreate the use of releasing the Alt key first.
This issue was definately not happening in prior versions of Lotus Notes - we’ve been on notes since around 2005 or prior and I’ve never had this issue before.
I hope IBM can come up with a solution to this soon as it’s very very frustrating

I have only noticed it occur on Internet emails. The majority of emails I work with are external - especially ones I would be switching between Notes and our internal system to cut & paste data between.
I keep my my mailbox from newest (top) to oldest (bottom). It will open the next message down - regardless of read or unread status. I have had times where after it “does that” I will go back to the original message, switch out, switch back, and it takes me to the same “next” message.
I suspect and can somewhat reproduce the issue by releasing alt first. It seems as if TAB is set up to go to the next message as is happening. I’m not sure if this is a new functionality in 9 or was there in 8x and prior and not as “sensitive” - or at least I never had it occur on a prior version. I don’t have any prior versions to test on at this point.
