Alias for group name?

I have a couple of situations in which I need to alias a group name. We’ve recently changed our Internet domain so we want to have both Internet addresses able to receive for the time being; and we’ve also changed some department names and would like to have mailing lists in the name of both the old and the new department.

We do aliasing for people simply by adding the desired information to the Fullname part of the person document (we don’t require an exact match for mail sending). However, I can’t seem to figure out a way to accomplish the same thing for a group since there is no Fullname field.

Short of creating a duplicate of every group with a different e-mail address or department name, does anyone have any great ideas on how I can accomplish this? Thanks!

for the alias group names, the group name is a multi-value field so just enter your group names separated by a semi colon:

Marketing; Advertising

As for the mulitple e-mail addresses you’d have to use another workaround and there are several ways to do this.

This is what we do:

To create alias for Mail-In databases and groups

  1. Create a group

  2. Name is ALIAS-(existing Mail-In database and group name)

  3. Type is mail only

  4. Category is Alias

  5. Internet address is the requested internet email address (must be a SINGLE ADDRESS)

  6. Members are the original Mail-In database and group name
