AIX and Domino thread suspension

Hello! Can anyone from Lotus guys help me with this problem?

ALL VERSION of Domino affected with it, but Domino 6 can make it ~20 times a day…

So I want to know WHEN Lotus will fix this error or make any workarounds?

I really upset because I paid money and want Lotus to be more active in resolving this problem.

Subject: could you give some more details what happens?

I am working on a number of large AIX customers and I am not aware of this problem. What exactly do you mean? Can you give a more detailed description?

Did you file a problem report with your LSM?

Can you be a little more specific on what the issue is you are seeing?

What version of Domino are you running? What version of AIX are you on? What ML is it at?

If you are looking for support from these forums, well, they are not the official channel and we do not have much time to visit them - we get our issues through our support channels.

Thanks!

I meant something like this:

Fatal Error Singal=0x00000000b PIP/TID=231/3076 Freezing all server threads.

On Domino 6 it happens at least ~8 times per day.

Domino 5 a bit better around 2-3 times.

Domino 6.0.1, 5.0.11

Only SMTP mail is running.

Subject: this is not specific enough… a NSD would give all information that is needed … some details …

In D6 you should get a NSD file automatically and you can even collect the crash info via email in a special database (also for clients). The NSD collection is new in 6.0.1 but in 6.0 it should be generated automatically. In D6.0.1 it is stored in the IBM_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT directory by default (like most other diagnostic output).

This NSD file contains all the details about your machine, the Domino configuration and also information of the crash. It contains the call stacks of each process and having this NSD can really help to drill down to your problem in most cases. As Kenbo said you should open a support incident and send them all your NSDs with crash info. If this is a similar call stack all the time they will find the problem quite fast.

If you have the right patches (you can check this with checkos → comes with D6 out of the box) and have everything properly configured this should not happen. We have a number of large customers using Domino on AIX (also on Regatta, one even clustered with a Xbox  and it is a really stable platform if setup properly.

Configuring Domino on AIX is a bit more complicated that installing it on Win32. You need to have specific settings on OS level and also within Notes to run it smoothly. For example you need to tune OS level memory settings and also Domino memory allocation in larger memory configurations (PercentAvailSysResources) .

Depending on the crashing task you can use additional debugging. For HTTP crashes you can generate logging of each request. For SMTP you can save inbound and new in D6 also outbound messages to see if you have a problem with corrupted messages.

There is a lot support can do to trace the problem but they need detailed information from you.

The line you posted gives only very limited information. It only shows that you have a memory access problem called “segmentation fault”.

We do crash analysis for all Unix/Linux platforms regularly and work closely with IBM support at enterprise customers to prepare and pre-analyse this kind of information before opening a support incident. In addition we do also server health-checks for Domino for Unix configurations. Domino on AIX needs much more detailed configuration. If configured properly you have a rock solid platform (see some tips here → )

Taking a quick look into your D6.0.1 NSDs would be a pleasure for me if this helps to make you a happy Domino for AIX customer. Feel free to send me some NSDs of your crashes (please ZIP them before sending) and I will give you a quick feedback.

I sent you some info by email…Thanks alot.

Domino5 forum full of such messages.

Just type in “Freezing all server threads” in Search to see 'em.

I will collect more info on my crashes and forward it to you.
