Agent Manager is hanging for no apparent reason?

We have a server on which the Agent Manager intermittently stops responding.

When this happens, all scheduled agents cease to operate, and a quick review of the server tasks using the Admin client shows the Agent Manager “Scanning agent list”. As soon as we see that, we know that it has stopped responding.

It will stay that way until we reboot the server. Attempts to shut the Agent Manager task itself down are ineffective - It does not respond at all. The rest of the server tasks continue to operate quite happily, but we need to force a server shutdown manually (it doesn’t shut down cleanly) to get the Agent Manager back on track again.

There are many instances of Agent Manager hanging issues throughout the various Lotus forums, but I cannot find one instance related to “Scanning agent list”. I cannot even find out what the server is doing when we observe this in the task list?

Has anyone else experienced similar issues?

Can anyone tell me what the server is doing?

I assume it is reviewing the databases to check for scheduled agents, but that’s just my guess.

Any assistance you may be able to provide would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

T.

Subject: Open a PMR with Lotus Support

Set

DEBUG_THREADID=1

DEBUG_INITTERM=1

DEBUG_OUTFILE=c:\tmp\notes.log

DEBUG_AMGR=*

Restart Domino

When the problem happens again manually take an nsd bye running nsd.exe from the Domino Program Directory…

e.g.

c:\domino> nsd.exe

Quit the Domino Server

Send the nsd log file generated (Wll be located in IBM_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT directory) and the debug outfile (c:\tmp\notes.log) into Lotus support for analysis. They should be able to tell you what it was going on.

Thanks John. I had intended on following just that process, but wanted to solicit the “quick answer” first!
