'Agent executions are disabled' - msg in log - ? how does this get set?

We’re seeing this message “Agent executions are disabled in (database name)” for lots of our databases. When you look at the database, the agents are enabled, but haven’t really run for about a week (some are scheduled to run every 5 minutes).

Anyone know what this message means or how a database would end up in this state? I searched the Admin help and Designer help - no help. I also didn’t find anything in this forum.

Our next step is to compile a list of all the databases that show this message in the log and manually check each one to make sure the agents are really running.

Our application servers are running 6.5.3.

Any info would be appreciated.

Title: “Agent Executions Are Disabled” Message Appears in Amgr Debug

Product: Lotus Domino > Lotus Domino Designer > Version 6.x

Platform(s): Platform Independent

Date: 2004-09-12

Doc Number: 1114488

If you turn on full debugging for Agent Manager in Notes/Domino 6.x you can examine the list of databases that have scheduled agents when the Agent Manager cache refreshes either on a server boot or at 12:00am (by default). You will note that potentially a large number of databases report the following:

“Amgr: Agent executions are disabled in [mail/jdoe.nsf]”

On a Domino R5.x Server, if this message is displayed in relation to a database it means that the database property to ‘Disable Background Agents in this Database’ has been enabled. However, on the Domino 6.x Server, this database does not have this property selected.

Solution

In Notes/Domino 6.x, this message will display if all of the scheduled agents in the database are disabled. If you enable an agent, the Agent Manager cache refresh will display the correct listing of all agents in that database, and whether they are enabled or disabled.

Supporting Information:

The property ‘Disable Background Agents in this Database’ is a checkbox located on the first tab of the InfoBox for Database Properties that appears when you select File → Database Properties.

If you check the database properties I think you will see that “Disable background agents for this database” is ticked in the first tab.

I wouldn’t care to guess how it got that way. Someone with more access than is justified by their level of common sense?

This is an option under database properties.

You can sanity check this type of issues using the expert system built into the Designer if you select ‘test’ adter selecting an agent. It will do a simulated run and report to you various findings including this one. More information on useful tips like this in the Agent FAQ under resources on the right.
