Agent doesn't know what day it is

We have a database with 5 scheduled agents, each set to run on a specific day, Tue - Sat, at 12:00AM. The week following the time change for DST, The agent set to run on Tue ran on Mon 10/30. On Tue, both Tue and Wed agents ran (at exactly the same time), on Wed both Wed and Thu agents ran, etc all the way through the end of the week. Anyone have an explanation for that? After that first week of issues the agents are running fine this week with no changes, no server restarts, no reboots, nothing. Although they are set to run at 12:00AM they consistently don’t actually kick off until about 12:13AM each day. Any insight is greatly appreciated as my boss is looking for a logical explanation. I’m usually pretty good at coming up with something but this one has me baffled.

Paul,

What is the DSTLaw setting in your server’s Notes.ini? It sounds like the Server OS acknowledge that DST had ended, but that Domino had not. (hence the server’s running an hour early…)

no, that’s not it. I saw the time change in the notes server log. The OS adjusted the time at 1:00AM on 10/29/06.

DSTLaw = 4,1,1,10,-1,1

DST = 1

TIMEZONE = 5

I am in eastern time zone. Here’s an example showing that both Fri and Sat agent ran on the same day at the same time. The agent properties is setup to run only on Friday and Saturday in their respective agent.

There was a discussion last year about agent schedules and DST. In case you haven’t already read the thread, here is a link to Julie’s response. Hope it helps.

I don’t see how that discussion is related to my problem. This was not something that occurred the day of or the day after the DST change. The first agent should not have run until the day of Tuesday but Tuesday’s agent ran on Monday, I guess thinking it was Tuesday. On Tuesday, Tuesday’s agent ran again but so did Wednesday’s. And this continued all week until Saturday. After that first week of issues passed everything was back to normal.

Paul,

Sorry, did not mean to lead you astray with my response. The only reason I provided the link is because, as Julie mentioned, the next time to run is stored in the agent. Hence, it is able to adjust after it ran, not before. I know it doesn’t explain everything, but thought that for whatever it does explains, I should just point out the thread to you.

Paul,

Here’s another idea…when is your agent cache set to refresh? On our system it is at midnight, which I believe is the out of the box setting in Domino. Your log seems to be behaving like it thinks it “missed” running the one agent the week that DST ended. Perhaps the Agent Cache got confused?

it’s set to 12:00AM. It wasn’t 1 agent. Hopefully maybe Julie will chime in with a logical explanation

Paul,

I knew it wasn’t 1 agent…what i was suggesting was that perhaps the agent manager got confused and ran your agents on their schedule for that one week and then managed to resync with how it was supposed to be.

however, i think you’re on the money…i don’t know the inner workings of the agent manager, and its best that the pros chime in (if they are still around and lurking…)
