(Can not select 8.5 as the release)After an easy upgrade to 8.5, I discovered that the “Transfer File”, and “Start an Instant Meeting” icons are now “greyed out” in the sametime client. This does not seem to be a server issue as other users who are still at 8.02 can transfer files to me. If I go to the menu, I can manually start an instant meeting, but tools/send/file is not available. I can’t find anything in the readme that mentions any new setting for this.

There are several things that could be causing this. Sametime has not eliminated the File Transfer option, so something is going wrong:

What kind of Sametime license are you using? Notes comes bundled with the Sametime Limited Use package, that does not have File Transfer capability. It sounds like at one time, at least, users were connecting to an enterprise Sametime server (with a Standard or Advanced license), since this used to work. Do your 8.5 users still connect to these same servers, or is it possible that they are connecting to a Limited Use Sametime server?

File transfer and screen capture icons are not available in the Sametime client that is embedded in the IBM Lotus Notes 8 client. If your users are using this kind of Sametime client, you can resolve the issue by changing the Sametime Default Policy. Specifically, by enabling the field “Allow all Sametime Connect features to be used with integrated clients” and restarting the Sametime server.

Is “Allow File Transfer” set in the Sametime Default Policy? I know that this doesn’t seem like a server config issue as some users can still use this option normally, but it’s a question worth asking. For example, do the users on 8.5 clients have the same Sametime policy pushed down to them as users on older releases?
