Advice needed (re: Exchange -> Domino)

Hello!

I have a specific hardware requirement request, so that’s why I’m posting. I don’t foresee any trouble in migrating 900 users from Exchange to Domino R6 on Linux. I just have a couple of questions for those who have any experience in this:

  • How fast a CPU would you suggest?

  • RAM?

  • Hard drive?

    The server will be used exclusively for mail, but could have more later on. About 200 of the 900 users will need access “on the road”, and may not have the best connection speeds at their locations.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

We just migrated both of our email servers from AS/400 to Linux. The speed increase is almost frightening. The stats on our servers are as follows:

IBM Netfinity 2.4GHz Pentium 4

2.5gb RAM

100gb mirrored drives (Raid 1)

100/200gb tape drive

RedHat Enterprise 2.1 Linux

Domino 6.5

Access from the web is so fast it feels like I’m “There”. We are extremely happy with this migration, and will be recommending server configurations like this to many of our customers.
