We sometimes see a lot of activity on the servers from processing mail policies. It seems to happen somewhat randomly, but often it is going on during the “morning rush”, and that’s bad.
The mail policies are not high importance in our environment, but web response is. The adminp load when processing hundreds of mail policies can slow down the HTTP response, so how can I reschedule or control this ADMINP mail policy activity?
Looking thru the online help about adminp scheduling, there’s some clues. There is nothing about when or how often the processes run, but in the server document Tasks tabs, you can set a blackout schedule for adminp, and I have tried that.
Although we don’t explicitly have mail policies, we have tons of mail files and I think adminp wants to periodically check them all just to see if they DO have policies - that’s what’s bogging things down in the morning. I simply told ADMINP to take a break between 6 am and 10 am. Might do the trick.
