Just starting to learn Lotus Domino/Notes, and need your expertise…Is it possible that Global Address Book got deleted from the Server when replacing user’s mail file template 6.5 design with a new 8.5 one?
What is the correct procedure for manually updating user’s mail template design when using Domino Admin console?
Is it possible that Global Address Book got deleted from the Server when replacing user’s mail file template 6.5 design with a new 8.5 one?>> It is not likely. It is not possible if you were doing it correctly. I don’t beleive it is possible to delete the server names.nsf whiel the server is up and running.

It is easiest from the notes client…right-click the icon, Application>Refresh OR Application>Replace design, choose the server & the new template, hit Replace.
Via Console Command, (this is in the Admin help under “Designer Task” BTW), load design -f mail\filename.nsf will refresh the design. If you want it replaced, you would first put the new templatename in the Application properties, design tab (4th tab), “Inherit design from master template - Template name” field. (I don’t think there’s a command-line way to do that)
Subject: Support people were using Admin GUI Interface
thanks for your response…It was being done thru Domino Admin GUI interface, Files tab and then highliting user’s mail template and choosing “replace design”.
Other admins would open users mail box from the same Files tab and then choosing “replace design”.
For me it’s hard to believe, that anyone should be able to replace Global Address Book by updating someones template.
Do you have any scenario, as to how it would have been possible? Appreciate your help.
Well, as I said, I have a hard time thinking the server’s address book could have been DELETED whiel the server was up and running. I pretty sure the server wouldn’t allow the delete to continue.
From your description of what they were doing, perhaps they replaced the design on the names.nsf with some other template, causing this problem.
The description of how they were replacing the mail templates is reasonable. I wouldn’t expect it to create a problem. Sound like someone did that when they were clicked on names.nsf, perhaps.
thank you for your response. Yes, the names.nsf file got replaced with some users names.nsfI have tested it on the test server and was able to replicate that - when you are in the People&Groups tab and select person w/o opening their mail file and do replace design it connects to servers names.nsf instead of users.
