Address Book Migration

I’m replacing an old worn-out laptop with a nice, shiny new one. I’ve added Lotus Notes to the new computer, copied over the .id file and the names.nsf from the old data folder to the new data folder.

When I open up the new computer’s address book (names.nsf), it’s totally empty.

What am I missing?

How did you copy it? If you used File/Database/New Copy then you probably only copied the design. If you did a physical O/S copy then I would look to see that I copied it to the right place. I suspect it is one or the other of the above.

I did a physical O/S copy and put it in the data folder of the new computer. I did get it working, but had to open the database from within the folder, which opened in the client. Then I added a bookmark for that database and deleted the old one.

Interestingly enough, I did a search on the new system, thinking maybe Notes was using some other copy of the names.nsf, but the only copy found was the one I copied over.

At least it’s fixed now, but I’m still not sure what the client could’ve been referring to in order to even open the empty address book.
