Address book duplicates when addressing emails

We have a user on 7.0.2 client. When he addresses an email by clicking “To” in a new memo, in the address book drop-down list he sees two copies of the server address book.

If he addresses an email to a group, it pops up an “ambiguous name” screen and makes him select from two identical entries, presumably one for each address book.

On his workspace there is only one copy of the address book listed, I can only find one physical address book replica on his machine hard disk, and the address book is listed only once in file → preferences → user preferences → mail → local address books.

Any ideas please? Client is 7.0.2 on windows XP

Hi Daniel,

Is there any chance that you have a Directory Catalog or Directory Assistance in use in your Environment?

One quick test I’d be interested in is, take the user’s ID and log on as them on another Workstation. If the issue reproduces, you know its on the Server, if not, its on the Client end.

Hope this helps!

Hi Robert (interesting coincidence with the usernames!) thanks for your reply. We do have directory assistance running, yes, however this problem only affects this one user that I am aware of. I will try what you suggest regarding using this user ID on another workstation and will post results here.

As Bob said I would check your directory assistance database if you have it setup on this server. It is not necessary to list the Directory for the domain in which the server resides.

One thing else I would check is the Names Notes.ini config parameter on the users home mail server or Domino directory server (if you have one setup in the user’s location document). Type sh config names on the domino console and check there is not a duplicate directory listed in there. The default should just be names.nsf. If no other users on the same home mail server report the same issue then I would start by recreating the affected users location document then perhaps their PAB if still having an issue if only to eliminate it as the problem.

Thanks guys. FOr the sake of prosperity in case anyone else encounters this problem:

The problem seemed to stem from the fact that on his workspace this user had both the server copy of the address book and also his local replica of the address book, and in the location document mail addressing was set to “Local then Server” so it was seeing both replicas and (for some reason, seems like a bug) was unable to tell that the two entries were identically for each match.

Solution was simply to change mail addressing to local only on mail tab of location doc in personal address book.

This does seem like odd behaviour - I would have thought notes would have collapsed identical replicas into a single entry or stopped at first match in one replica? Anyway, this problem is sorted, thanks
