Adding Inbox or ToDo to sidebar

The ability to add a Notes view to your sidebar in 8.0.2 is great - simply open the view, click on Tools, Widgets, Add to Sidebar. Unfortunately this does not work in our 8.0.2 mail files or Contacts databases. What is an easy way to tell users how to add views from these two dbs to their sidebar? Or do we have to build plug-ins/widgets for them?
